Farmshops
For anyone who cringes at thought of another workshop, a "farmshop" is a welcome escape. Digging up cassava and turmeric for lunch might seem a simple thing, but as we dig and peel and cook, we talk. And the more we look and ask about these simple but increasingly uncommon acts, the more it leads us to fascinating issues of ecology, economics, health and wellbeing. Recent day-long farmshops have included cultural exchanges between upland forest farmers and Bangkok international school students; conservation and use of traditional herbs; post-modern hunting and gathering in the backyard; alternative aquaculture; climate-smart agriculture (food is carbon! Make more!); compost innovations; duck tractors and much more.
We are happy to discuss your ideas and needs and try to custom-design a farmshop with you. These can also include visits in the neighborhood or elsewhere in northern Thailand. The Chiang Mai area is a great place to explore the important things people are doing about food and farming. Fair Earth Farm is a good base to get started. Please write [email protected]. |
